Liposculpture Explained - VASER Liposuction - OrthoSculpt Skip to main content

Liposuction surgery is done to remove or redistribute fat for contouring and to remove smaller pockets of fat. OrthoSculpt, an advanced technique uses VASER liposuction to highlight muscle definition and ab etching.

Some Basic Facts

  • Only moderate pain is expected following the procedure due to the tissue-sensitive nature of VASER.
  • VASER uses ultrasound technology allowing surgeons to target fat deposits while minimizing damage to connective tissue and blood vessels. That translates to less pain, bruising, and swelling.
  • The fat removed from the liposuctioned area is permanent, but you can still gain weight in other areas without a healthy diet and exercise. Liposuction is NOT a substitute for weight loss or maintenance.
  • Liposculpture may not be recommended for patients who have a BMI over 30. However, each case should be evaluated on total health merits.
  • Patients who have saggy skin need to address loose skin with Renuvion or with skin excision to get optimal results.

Liposculpture Explained

Liposculpture remains one of the most popular plastic surgery trends. As its name implies, liposculpture is a variation of liposuction. But unlike traditional liposuction – which removes fat from specific areas of the body, liposculpture is more than just removing fat. It also recontours the body by removing fat and then regrafting it to areas like the butt, hip dips, and breasts to improve the body’s overall contours.

Fat deposits are removed by skinny metal tubes called canulas, inserted into the body through small incisions during a liposculpture procedure. A medical suction pump removes the fat by creating an area of negative pressure, a technique used to avoid contamination and keep fat viable as long as possible. After fat removal, it is transferred to another body part that needs to be plumped up, such as the breasts, hip dips or buttocks. This transfer is used in a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or Natural Breast Augmentation (NBA). Liposculpture is most often done on an outpatient basis, using general anesthesia and pain sedation to ensure the patient’s comfort.

In general, liposculpting is much more demanding than liposuction because the overall dimension and shape of the body must be considered, not just a few areas and improved. It requires an additional step that precedes liposuction make possible by using VASER liposuction, the only technique that can address both layers of fat, deep and subcutaneous.

Also, most liposculpture procedures are followed by skin tightening,  increasing the time needed to perform the surgery and produce optimal results. This level of sculpting is challenging to do well. Taking out the maximum amount of fat does not always create the most aesthetic results without consideration to how the skin will contract and redrape. Your surgeon should have an artistic eye in addition to excellent surgical technique.

What Can You Expect During Recovery

You can expect to see swelling during your recovery, but a rule, far less than other forms of liposuction due to the tissue-sensitive nature of VASER’s ultrasound technology. The majority of swelling occurs from damage and bruising to surrounding tissues, which is far less with Dr. Cyr’s OrthoSculpt technology. You’ll see surprising results soon but as the swelling subsides within a few weeks it just keeps getting better and better.

Abdominal etching results, achievable only through the above method, are also permanent if you maintain your weight through a healthy diet and exercise program.
